Terms of use
What these terms cover
These terms cover DogPolicies's website, the JSON, CSV and markdown files under /api/v1/, /data/ and /places/, /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt, and the MCP server at /mcp/ (together, "the service"). DogPolicies is run by an independent owner (legal name published at launch). Contact: the corrections form or corrections@dogpolicies.com.
The data and its licenses
- The data is licensed CC BY 4.0. Use it for anything, including commercial use, as long as you credit "DogPolicies" with a link to the page or dataset you used. Facts are free; the compilation, quotes and wording are what the license covers.
- Chain hotel names and locations come from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0): credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors" and keep adapted databases under the ODbL. They are published in
/api/v1/osm-hotels.json,/data/chain-hotels.csvand each such hotel's own files. - Show the date a rule was verified and link its page when you show the rule to someone, and do not alter a record's verification status or date when you redistribute it. Rules change, and the date tells readers how current the answer is.
- A chain hotel marked as carrying its brand's policy has not confirmed that policy itself. Say so when you use it.
- When a record says the source does not state a fact, do not present a fact from elsewhere as coming from DogPolicies.
- A live feed, service levels and redistribution rights beyond the license are available under a separate commercial license. Verification itself is never for sale.
Using the service
- The service is free and needs no key or sign-up. Automated access, AI assistants and crawlers are welcome.
- Limits apply. Requests beyond them may be slowed or refused with HTTP status 429.
- Do not disrupt the service: no attacks, no attempts to get around limits, and no load testing without written permission.
- Field names in the JSON files and MCP results stay stable. Changes add fields; they do not rename or remove existing ones without notice on the data page.
Accuracy
- Every fact names its official source and the date it was checked. Rules still change between checks, and agencies close places at short notice for fire, weather, wildlife or construction. Check with the managing agency or business before a visit.
- The service does not cover room rates, availability or bookings; service animals, which the Americans with Disabilities Act governs; same-day closures; restaurant dog policies a business has not published; or places outside California and Nevada.
- The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, DogPolicies is not liable for losses from use of the service or the data, such as a fine, a refused booking or a closed trail.
Verification and endorsement
Verification is never for sale. A listing does not mean DogPolicies endorses a place, and using the data does not mean DogPolicies endorses the user. Paid placements, if any, are labeled.
Changes to these terms
Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date. Using the service after a change means accepting the new terms.
Governing law
To be published at launch.
Privacy notice
- No accounts. The website has no sign-up and no login, and no analytics script.
- Your dog's profile stays with you. The hotel finder saves your dog's weight and details in your browser only. They are never sent to DogPolicies.
- The MCP server keeps counts, not requests. It counts calls per day by tool and by the name the AI client reports, such as "claude-ai". It does not store IP addresses, what was asked or what was answered. Counts are kept for 13 months.
- Corrections and confirmations. A report you send holds the page id, your message, an optional source link and the contact you give. We use them to answer you and to record the verification, which names a role ("front desk manager"), never a person.
- Our host. The hosting provider processes request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and to protect the service from abuse, under its own privacy policy.
